Phyllis Harrison President: Club news from January '10 to the
present
The Chicken
Shoots are going to be starting shortly. I would like to invite as many of you to come and give it a try if you have
never been to one. There are members at the shoots that are very knowledgeable and willing to discuss with other members
the sport of shooting. Jolly has been good enough to write a small note about the shoots that is a quick outline on
what the shoots are all about. I don't make it to every shoot, though when I do, I always bring some goodies that
I have made up for the shooters. We have decided to have just one Fishing Derby this year.
We will have the Fishing Derby the morning of the Pig Roast/Club Picnic. For those that were in attendance for them
this year it was a very enjoyable time. I would encourage all of the members to come out and enjoy the grounds, company
of other club member and enjoyable roast pig. Please contact Steve or myself if you have any questions about the Fishing
Derby and Pig Roast. A couple of years ago, I announced that we would
charge a fee of $50 for events if members wish to hold one at the picnic grounds. PLEASE remember that the club depends
on members to tend and care for the grounds. If you have an event planned, YOU are responsible for the appearance of
the grounds. If you want to get checked out on the club's equipment, contact me and I will arrange someone to meet
with you and go over how to operate the equipment. Keep in mind that the picnic area is still open to Club members,
even though there may be a private party going on. Remember to use
our web site Stillwaterrodandgun.org re: events at the club, etc. We are trying to use the internet to save money and keep
the membership up to date as much as possible.
Message from Secretary/Treasurer Steven A. Hemstreet
I hope that this newsletter finds all of the members in good
shape and you have had a fine year. This last year there was discussion about our sign out by the road. It looked
nice when it was done years ago, and we thought that a bit of paint we could get it looking attractive again. Upon closer
inspection we realized that the sign had seen it's best days. We contracted with a professional sign maker and now
have a very nice sign that should last for quite a few years to come. There are some of you
that have already renewed your membership. If you have renewed already, thank you. If you haven't, I would
like to remind you that your membership will expire on the 31st of December. To renew your membership, please make out
a check for $50.00 to the club and send it to the address on the newsletter. You don't need to fill out another
application if you were a member in the past 30 years, as I have the records on the computer. If you want to trade in
your old key for an '11 key, you may send the old one with your check. If for some reason you don’t have the
old one or want another key, please send $2.00 for each additional key that you want. When you leave the grounds, be
sure to lock the gates. If you see something askew, or are aware of something happening that isn't right, PLEASE
call so that we can take care of it. As I was gathering information for this newsletter I realized
that we have elections this January (2011). There are six (6) positions that we will be voting on. There are the
executive officers President, vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, as well as three (3) members of the Board of Directors.
All six (6) of these positions are for three (3) year terms. If you know of anyone that you think would be good in one
of the positions talk to them and bring their name forward at the meeting in January. As a reminder, to be eligible
for office the person must be a member in good standing at least the last three (3) years as well as a current member of the
club. As for the duties and responsibilities for each, you are welcome to contact any of the current members and I am
sure they can answer any questions that anyone may have. Since we set up our web site
a few years ago there are more inquiries about the club as well as applicants. If you have anything you would like added
or changed let us know so that we are able to meet the needs and desires of the members. Remember the web site is: Stillwaterrodandgun.org.
I hope that all of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Shoots This year the shoots
will start on Saturday, January 8th and will be every Saturday until April 16th. We shoot 22
rim mostly. At 25 yards we use iron sites and at 50 yards scopes are permitted but some people still use the iron sites
sometimes. The cost is $10 for 10 targets in each class. There is a $5 prize each round.
If there is a tie we either shoot it off or split the money. I usually start the wood stove
around 10 am and people start coming in and site in. The shoots start @12:00 Noon and last to around 3:00 depending
on the number of shooters. There are always snacks and an occasional crockpot. Good times are had by all. Always room
for more. Shirts
This last year there were some of us talking of getting some
shirt made up for the Rod & Gun Club. I have arranged for various shirts to be made up with the Stillwater Rod &
Gun Club logo on it. This is the same as you see on the new sign in front of the picnic grounds. Steve tells me that
there isn't enough room in the newsletter for all the information on the shirts. Check out the web site and see
what we have gotten together. Everyone who has gotten them so far has been very pleased. Any questions give me
a jingle.
Thanks! Jolly. ********** Officers & Board of Directors

January To The Present
A Board meeting was held January 31, 2007, at which time a complete financial
report was given by Sec/Treas from 1991 to the present. January also saw the club hold an Archery class.
It was decided a new archery area will be established in part of the old baseball field on the river side of the
property. April: The Club held a Hunter Education class run by Matt Rubino with help from John Callahan
and Chuck Painton. A web site was established this Spring by member Joe Goss. Our web site is Stillwaterrodandgun.org. The Chicken Shoots went on as usual, and our annual Kids Fishing Derby was June 3rd, with 10 youngsters
attending, with hot dogs and burgers for all. Thanks to Bill Wood for grilling. A huge thank you to all
members who dragged away the downed trees this year. John Boyce and two new members, Tim Melvis and Nick
Sturgis. The Picnic Grounds were used four times this summer for members special parties, graduation,
etc. The Board as well as members at our monthly meetings have tried quite a few ideas to raise money. I
tried to organize a Craft Fair on the Picnic Grounds with no response. Our efforts at a Bass Tournament
were squelched by NY State ENCON. It became necessary to raise our dues last year, and it was just in time, as our taxes have gone up. Other area clubs are more than twice as much as ours. A Board meeting was held
October 16th, and finance discussed at length. It was decided that he club would now charge a fee of $50
for the events members which to hold at the picnic grounds. Keep in mind that the picnic area is still open to
Club members, even though there maybe a private party going on. PLEASE don't
use the range building as a dump for your unwanted items. Over the summer a gigantic ceiling fan and an equally
large television have appeared. We don't need either item! please come and take them away. The Chicken Shoots will start January 5th and the last one will be April 12th. The group will
gather between 10:00 -11:00 AM. Competition starts at 12:00 Noon. On the first Saturday of each month I try to bring soup or chilli, the proceeeds go to the club. Our Spring Hunter Safety Education course
will be on the weekend of April 26 and 27, 2008. Be sure to contact Matt Rubino ahead of time to reserve
a spot for you or someone that is need of this course.

I have been asked to include in the newsletter the following:
- When you are done shooting at the range, PLEASE pick up after yourself. That includes your targets as
well as your brass and coffee cups. Turning off the lights, close & bolt the target windows and chain across
he driveway For those of you that are new to the club, (as well as those that have been here for
years), I have placed a list of activities that we have going on through the year. If you are unable to make it
to a meeting, feel free to contact me and I will steer you toward the person that is heading up that area if you
wish to contribute. Archery Buildings and Grounds -painting
of buildings -repair of roofs -mowing of the picnic grounds -mowing of the rifle range -maintenance of the equipment Chicken Shoots Fishing Derby Hunter Saftey Training
Newsletter Those are the major items that we have going on. There are minor items or "little" things
for those who want to do a bit or don't have the time to dedicate too much to the club. Steve Hemstreet 753-4581 E-Mail: Shemstreet@aol.com
We are fortunate this past year to have a member ( Joe
Goss) step forward and set up a web site for the club. For anyone that has access to the internet, this is an exciting site to get up to date information on the club. The web site is Stillwaterrodandgun.org.. At
first there will be limited information, though as it is used more and there are more of us using the site there
will be more for all of us to use and access. The Board of Directors has discussed using the web site and
having an electronic newsletter that comes out more often than this annual newsletter. We will continue to use
this newsletter as our "annual newsletter" and use quartley ones on the web site to keep the members
up to date. As various events are announced we are able to post them immediatley on the web site. This allows
you to have nearly instant access to what events are coming up in the club without the additional expense of printing
and postage. I encourage all the members to access the site and utilize this new and exciting way to know
what is happening with our club. I would like to call to everyones attention that this year we have elections for four (4) members of theBoard of Directors. This will be occuring at the January meeting (weather
permitting) and if not will be held at the next meeting of the club.

I hope
that this newsletter finds all of the members in good shape and you have had a fine year. It is that time of the year
and I would like to remind you that your membership will be up at the end of the year. To renew your membership please
make out a check for $40.00 to the club and send it to the address on the newsletter. You don’t need to fill out
another application if you were a member the past 25 years, as I have the records on the computer. If you want to trade
in your old key for a '07 key, you may send the old one with your check. If for some reason you don’t have
the old one or want another key, please send $1.00 for each additional key that you want. The keys again this year will
be changed the night of our annual meeting in January. These keys will fit the rifle range, gateway to the picnic grounds
and the bathrooms on the picnic grounds. Please remember to lock any of these locks after you are done using the facilities.
As in the past, this year there were some problems with the locks not being locked and there was some vandalism that took
place as a result of this. When you leave, be sure to lock that gates. It was brought to my attention that the lock
at the picnic grounds came apart this fall. If you see something askew, or are aware of something happening that isn't
right, PLEASE call so that we can take care of it. Thanks.
Phyllis
Harrison President
I want to thank
both Charboneau's as well as the others for the fine job they have done in keeping the grounds mowed this past year.
Matt Rubino headed up the Hunter Safety Training Class and once again did a fine job of it with assistance from some of the
members of the club. It is great having Matt head this up and offer this to the member's families and the public.
Thanks to Gary Miller for painting the Rifle range. it looks great. After a couple of
false starts, it looks like we are going to have the Chicken Shoots after all. They will be on Saturdays starting at
12:00 Noon on Jan 6th and will be held for 10 weeks. You don't need to be an expert shooter to take part, come up
and see what it is about and get some hints and advice from the guys that are there. We have
a new sign to go up down at the river. The posts broke off the other one there. At the work day in the spring
we will get the new one installed. It looks like we will finally get rid of the dumpster that has taken up residence
along the road to the picnic grounds. It was brought in to take away debris and we have never been able to get the individual
that dropped it off to come and pick it up. I think we have someone who will take it off our hands and make the grounds
look much better. Next year we will be holding elections for some members of the Board
of Directors. It would be nice to see some others step up and express some interest in serving in these positions.
If you have interest or wonder what it all takes, feel free to contact me or one of the other officers. We will be more
than glad to go over with you what the jobs entail and what is expected from members of the board.

to a meeting, feel free to contact me and I will steer you toward the person that is heading up that area if you
wish to contribute.

It is early, but we are exploring sending out/having an electronic version of the newsletter. With members e-mail address
we can send you up to date information as things evolve. For those of you that are new to the

I hope
that this newsletter finds all of the members in good shape and you have had a fine year.
Thanks.
